The Opportunity

Davis Pier is seeking a full-time Associate to join our consulting firm in Halifax, NS. The successful candidate will lead and deliver exceptional client services necessary to design, plan, and implement lasting change and improvement in complex public sector environments.

Responsibilities

The Associate will:

  • Act as a lead consultant or team lead on complex projects;
  • Manage resources within Davis Pier, partner firms, and client organizations;
  • Manage client relationships within project environments;
  • Provide expertise in our service lines on client engagements;
  • Develop high quality project deliverables;
  • Facilitate client workshops and interviews;
  • Seamlessly integrate with client teams; and
  • Develop tailored approaches to project delivery to ensure engagement outcomes are delivered in an undisruptive manner.

Qualifications

Candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Formal education in business, public administration, engineering, or IT;
  • Previous experience in project settings in a professional services environment;
  • Focused on providing exceptional results to clients;
  • Possess strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills;
  • Possess the ability to remain flexible concerning approaches to delivering client solutions;
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Previous consulting experience would be considered an asset; and
  • Knowledge of the public sector, the social sector, or healthcare would be considered an asset.

Research Associate

The Opportunity

Davis Pier is seeking a full-time Research Associate to join our consulting firm in Halifax, NS. The successful candidate will lead and deliver research and evaluation projects for public sector and healthcare partners.  In alignment with our pursuit of evidence-based policy, the Research Associate will work with partners to identify and deliver rigourous research to design and evaluate policy and programming with the objective of improving the delivery of public services.

The Research Associate would work through our policy innovation outpost, Pier Labs, and with not-for-profit, philanthropic, academic, and public sector partners to complete this work.

Responsibilities

The Research Associate will:

  • Design evaluation frameworks aligned with project objectives and requirements
  • Developing interventions to test – applying concepts from behavioral and social science to the design of communications, processes, and programs
  • Supporting the development of field experiments
  • Develop data collection plans and data analysis strategies to answer key evaluation questions
  • Create and test data collection instruments and protocols
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis for a range of research and evaluation projects
  • Work with clients and partners to co-design and implement evaluation activities, including training and technical assistance
  • Monitor data collection activities and conduct data quality assurance
  • Prepare memos, briefs and other materials to support effective communication with clients and stakeholders
  • Conduct jurisdictional scans, literature searches and evidence reviews to inform evidence- informed decision-making
  • Provide policy analysis and program design support
  • Write reports and prepare presentations to effectively communicate research results and recommendations to a range of technical and non-technical audiences
  • Conduct project coordination activities including developing project schedules and work plans, organizing meetings, managing documents and tracking activities

Qualifications

Candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in behavioural science,  economics, sociology, psychology, public administration, political science, population health or related field
  • Expertise in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
  • Academic or job-related experience conducting evaluations of social programs is highly desired
  • Experience designing randomized control experiments
  • Experience designing data collection instruments including surveys and/or interview protocols
  • Experience in research, public policy analysis and program design
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with a strong ability to convey complex ideas and information to non-technical audiences
  • Strong motivation and commitment to research excellence, generating new ideas, exchanging and mobilizing knowledge, and continuous improvement
  • Ability to make appropriate decisions in the face of complexity or uncertainty, identify and manage risks, and act to address issues when necessary
  • Proficiency with statistics software (e.g. STATA, R, Python, SPSS, SAS, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
